Areas of expertise
I am an applied ecologist, interested in bridging ecology and management (restoration) of ecosystems. My scientific expertise encompasses: - plant functional traits, phenotypic variability, and adaptive strategies (e.g., drought, herbivory) based on plant ecophysiology, architecture and increasingly hydraulics; - plant community assembly and re-assembly in response to climate change and disturbance; - biodiversity-ecosystem functioning relationships, with applications in restoration, forestry and agroecology; - bio-informatics, eco-informatics aspects of ecological and biodiversity data management and processing I mainly work on Mediterranean and desert ecosystems (rangelands, forests and agroforests) and will now increasingly work on tropical forest ecosystems too. I study both grasses and trees and will certainly focus on trees in the coming years.
