Areas of expertise
For my undergraduate degree and MSc I studied at the University of Vienna, Austria, the latter having an emphasis on psychometrics and probabilistic test theory. I went on to do a PhD in Experimental Psychology in the Comparative Cognition Lab at the University of Cambridge, UK. I stayed on in the same lab until Jan 2019 as I was given the opportunity to expand my research programme on animal cognition there, with multiple research secondments and field work visits, primarily to the Center for Mind/Brain Sciences (CIMeC) at the University of Trento and the Research Center for Alpine Ecosystems (CREA Mont-Blanc). From 2019 to 2021 I was a member of the Institute for Globally Distributed Open Research and Education (IGDORE), a institution with no geographical location, which allowed me to work while having caring duties towards several family members. Since 2021 I am Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Rijeka in Croatia. Over the last six years, my research focus has shifted from experimental work on animal cognition to a more holistic and critical approach to animal behaviour science and currently comprises work into the theoretical, methodological and statistical issues of behavioural research with humans and non-human animals. Since 2022 I am the Head of the Division of Cognitive Sciences, a newly formed division that unites researchers from different disciplines and carries out the Masters in Cognitive Sciences: Cognition the Mind programme.
